Introduction
Welcome to Apex Journal. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with your use of the Apex Journal mobile application ("App"). We are committed to being transparent about our data practices.
The short version: Apex Journal does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us or any third party. All your journal entries, ratings, predictions, and photos are yours alone.
Information We Do Not Collect
Apex Journal is designed with privacy as a foundation. We do not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number, etc.)
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Crash reports or diagnostic data sent to us
- Photos, journal entries, or any app content — stored only on your device and iCloud, never transmitted to us
- Financial or payment information
We have no servers that receive your data. We do not know who you are.
Data You Create in the App
All content you create within Apex Journal — including race journal entries, driver and race ratings, podium predictions, photos, and notes — is stored exclusively on your device and, if you choose to enable it, in your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit framework.
iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your App data may sync across your Apple devices through iCloud. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data. Apple acts as a data processor on your behalf under their own terms.
You can manage or disable iCloud sync at any time via your device's Settings app under your Apple ID › iCloud.
Photos
You may capture photos directly using your device camera within the App. Any photos you add to your race journals are stored locally on your device and, if iCloud Photos is enabled, in your iCloud account. We do not access, upload, or process your photos.
Third-Party Services
Apex Journal does not integrate with third-party analytics platforms, advertising networks, or data brokers.
The App retrieves publicly available Formula 1 standings and race schedule data to power the Standings section and race calendar, as well as publicly available circuit information. This is read-only data fetched on your device; no information about you is sent as part of these requests beyond standard network metadata (such as your IP address), which is handled by the data provider and not by us.
All notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on-device using iOS's local notification system. No device token is collected or transmitted, and no remote push server is used.
Children's Privacy
Apex Journal does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The App is suitable for users of all ages. Because we collect no data, we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations.
Your Rights & Data Control
Because we do not collect any personal data, there is no data held by us for you to access, correct, export, or delete. You are in complete control of your information:
- Delete App data Delete the App from your device.
- Delete iCloud data Manage or delete App data from iCloud via Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage on your device.
- Revoke photo access Go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos on your device.
Security
Since all data resides on your device or in your personal iCloud account, your data is protected by the security measures Apple provides — including device passcodes, Face ID / Touch ID, and iCloud end-to-end encryption where applicable.
We encourage you to use a strong device passcode and keep your software up to date.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, notify you within the App.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
